Kamienne Deaths 1785 - 1945, powiat Sanok, gmina Bukowsko, old województwo Krosno, Volume 24

These Greek Catholic records should be considered civil records as they were kept at the Bukowsko Urząd Stanu Cywilnego. The Greek Catholic parish for the village of Kamienne was in Płonna. Eventually the original book will be transferred to the Rzeszów civil archives in Sanok.

People in these records lived in the villages of Kamienne, Karlików, Kulaszne, Mokre, Morochów, Płonna, Przybyszów, Ratnawica, Szczawne, Tokarnia, Wysoczany and Zawadka.

Polish diacriticals were used in order to spell the names correctly and you will need to use them in your search terms.

Sometimes if there isn’t a house number listed it means the person lived in a village other than Płonna. The record often indicated where someone was born and not everyone died in the village of Płonna. Sometimes two house numbers were listed. I have no idea why.

Sometimes the priest wrote the given names in Ukrainian rather than Latin and I have preserved that spelling. Sometimes the priest used the diminutive forms of given names and that is what you will find here. Given names in the record written in Latin or Polish are listed here in Polish. Surnames were written as found in the records. Grammar rules didn’t settle down until the late 1800s. Consequently some of the surnames in this record morphed into different spellings later on. If you can’t find a particular spelling in this index you need to shorten the search letters.

Women’s surnames were spelled using the nominative masculine endings; -ska is -ski and -cka is -cki. So if you are looking for a woman with the surname Barycka, search on Barycki or Baryckyj. There were many surnames we were not familiar with and they may be spelled wrong in the index. Please let me know if you find errors so they can be corrected.

If you are accustomed to ending a surname with –ki (Usiński or Romański) or –wy (Siwy/Sywy) search with the ending, -kij and –wyj; Usińskij, Romańskij, Sywyj.

The record usually indicates if a deceased woman was married or if she was a widow at the time of her death. If the wife left a living husband then his name is mentioned in the record and is listed in the chart. If the woman was a widow, her husband’s name was usually not mentioned in the record. If there is only a surname in the SPOUSE column this refers to her deceased husband.

In some cases a woman’s first, second and third husbands are mentioned in the record. We included these names in the SPOUSE column.

If (mother) is listed in the Father column this either means the child was illegitimate or that the father had died prior to the child’s death. If the father died prior to the child then the mother will be listed with her maiden name and married name.

Sometimes the mother of the deceased was listed in the record, not just the father. This information started to appear about 1845.

Ages were often exact in the record, including years and months. We rounded down to the nearest year. In some cases the actual birth date can be found in the record. If no age is listed it usually means the infant was stillborn or the age was not listed in the record.
