Nowotaniec Civil Births, Volume 9, 1899 – 1946

The following records were compiled by Debbie Greenlee. She is the owner and author of this page.

These are CIVIL birth records copied from the Nowotaniec parish records and given to the Urząd Status Cywilnego in Bukowsko. This book also contained marriage and death records. Those are indexed separately.

Polish diacriticals were used in order to spell the names correctly and you will need to use them in your search terms. Surname spellings changed a bit so you should be flexible when searching.

Women’s surnames were spelled using the nominative masculine endings; -ska is -ski and -cka is -cki. So if you are looking for a woman with the surname Królicka, search on Królicki.

Surname Variations: Some surnames may be spelled differently than what you are used to seeing so if you don’t locate a name shorten the spelling in an effort to locate the one you seek. Examples: Orybkiewicz is also spelled Orypkiewicz; Rajchel is also spelled Raichel and Rejchel; Wojcik is also spelled Wójcik; Kużmiak is also spelled Kuźmiak; Folta is also spelled Fołta, Królicki can be found spelled Krolicki, Próżny can be found as Proźny, Sałabun can be found as Sałaban, Kożma can be found as Koźma, and Kondyjowski can be found as Końdyjowski. One surname, Krzysik is also known as (aka) Majkiewicz.

Sometimes infants that were stillborn did not receive names but their sex was indicated in the record. If a father is not listed then the child is probably listed as illegitimate in the record. Some children were born and labeled as illegitimate but the father was added later so the child was then considered legitimate. In these cases the father’s name is in the original record.

A few births took place outside of the area. That information is in the index. Some later records contain the parents’ marriage dates and their birth dates, however, I found that some are incorrect.

Thank you to Susan Udinsky, Valerie Bell, Jaime Saranczak, Janet George, and Becky Vingo for helping to index these records.
